GATE 2017 important dates
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE is one of the most important exams in India. GATE exams are gateway to higher studies in top Indian institutes like IIT and IISc. You can pursue MTECH or PHD in these organizations. Along with these major organizations there are other institute which look GATE score for admission in their MTECH course.
Along with post graduate study GATE exams also help you get job in top public sector companies.Many Maharatna and State organizations recruit using GATE score.So if you want career in these organizations then you can give GATE exams.I have mentioned list of companies which are recruiting using GATE 2017 marks in separate post.You can read that post here.
Important dates related to GATE 2017 are
- Online application filling and application submission starts from 1st Sept 2016
- Last date of submission of online application is 4th Oct 2016
- Last date for change in examination city is 16th Nov 2016
- Admit card can be printed from 5th Jan 2017
- Date of online exams are 4th and 5th Feb 2017 and 11th and 12th Feb 2017
- Results will be announced on 27th Mar 2017
GATE 2017 eligibility criteria
There is no age limit in GATE 2017. The educational qualification required for GATE 2017 exams are outlined below
Candidates should have Bachelor degree in Engineering or Technology ( 4 years after 10 + 2 or 3 years after BSc/Diploma in Engineering ord Technology). Final year candidates can also apply for the post.
Candidates having Bachelor degree in Architecture.This is five year course.Final year candidates can also apply.
Candidates having Bachelor degree in Science after diploma or four years after 10 + 2.
MSc/MA/MCA or equivalent
Candidates having Masters degree in any branch of Science or Maths or Statistics or Computer Applications or equivalent is required.
Integrated ME or MTECH post BSc
Candidates who are in second or third or fourth year or already completed of Integrated masters degree program in Engineering or Technology (four year course) can apply for GATE exams.
Integrated ME or MTECH or Dual Degree after diploma or 10 + 2
Candidates who are in fourth or fifth year or already completed Integrated Masters degree in Engineering or Technology (five year program) can apply for GATE exams.
Integrated MSc or Integrated BS MS
Candidates who are in final year or completed Integrated MSc or Five year integrated BS MS program can apply for exams.
Professional society examination
Professional society exams which are equivalent to BE or BTECH or BArch recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE (AMIE by Institution of Engineers-India, AMICE by the Institute of Civil Engineers-India) are eligible to apply for the exams.
GATE 2017 application process
You will have to apply online.Also candidates should apply for only one post.The application fees is non refundable.The application fees for General candidates is 1500 INR. The application fees for Women candidates and reserved candidates (SC,ST) and physically challenged candidates is 750 INR. For International candidates physically challenged clause and reservation clause is not applicable.The fees for International candidate is 50 USD.

The XE and XL papers will have different sections and format compared to other papers.
Engineering Sciences XE
Candidates applying for Engineering sciences paper will have to appear for Mathematics section and any two of the sections mentioned below.You can select any of the two sections below at the time of exams after seeing questions.

Life Sciences XL
Candidates have to give mandatory section of Chemistry.Along with Chemistry section they will have to pick any two of below mentioned sections.

GATE 2017 selection process
GATE 2017 exams will consist of single paper.The duration of paper will be 3 hours.The paper will have 65 questions.The total marks of written test will be 100.All the examination will be online computer based test.All papers will have 10 questions from General Ability. 10 questions will have total of 15 marks.
Paper codes AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF and XE, the Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks.Apart from above the rest of the marks will be from topic of the exams.For example if you are applying for Mechanical then rest of the questions will be from Mechanical.
There will not be any negative marking for Numeric answer type question.All other questions will have negative marking. The negative marking for 1 marks will be 1/3 and negative marking for 2 marks will be 2/3.
Each paper will have 10 General Ability questions.Out of which 5 questions will be of 1 marks and 5 questions will be of 2 marks. Question papers other than XL,XE and GG will have 25 questions of 1 marks and 30 questions of 2 marks each.
Geology and Geophysics question paper will have two parts A and B.Part A will be mandatory for all candidates.Part A will have 25 questions of one marks each.Part B will have two sections Geology and Geophysics.Candidates will have to select any one part.Part B will have 30 questions.Each question will have 2 marks each.
Engineering sciences will have different pattern then all other papers.Engineering Mathematics is mandatory section.This section will have 7 questions carrying one marks and 4 questions carrying two marks.You have to attempt two sections out of sections mentioned above.These two sections will have 9 questions carrying one marks and 13 questions carrying 2 marks.
Life Sciences will have similar pattern to Engineering Sciences.In this case Chemistry is the mandatory paper.
GATE 2017 important points
Below are some important points regarding GATE 2017 exams
- Candidates will back log papers are also eligible
- You can change examination city with payment of 400 INR.
- You can not carry calculator or any other electronic device within examination hall
- You can not change submitted application
- The application fees is not refundable
- You will have to download and Print the admit card.GATE will not send you or mail you admit card
- The XE (Engineering Sciences) paper now has a new section on Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences.Previous year GATE exams did not have this section.
- GATE examinations shall be conducted in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and United Arab Emirates
