  1. Number of candidates registered for the exam – 2,800(approx)
  2. Number of candidates appeared for the exam – 2,300(approx)
  3. Number of qualified candidates – 474
  4. Percentage of candidates qualified – 20% (approx)
  5. Maximum marks out of 100 – 83
  6. Minimum marks out of 100 – 26.67
  7. Average marks – 48.56
  8. Standard Deviation – 10.72

The average marks is among one of the highest compared to the papers of GATE exams.The maximum and minimum marks are one of the highest compared to other papers. This makes is scoring paper compared to other papers. Also the passing percentage is same as most of the other papers.

Since average marks is close to 50 you have to score good marks to get decent rank in this paper.You should ideally target anything in range of 65 to 75. Most of the candidates will have marks in range of 35 to 60. So scoring above this range will be good.Below are the preparation materials to help you score good marks with ease.

Differential equations: First order equations (linear and nonlinear), Higher order linear differential equations with constant coefficients, Cauchy’s and Euler’s equations, Initial and boundary value problems, Laplace transforms, Solutions of one dimensional heat and wave equations and Laplace equation.

4. Complex variables: Complex number, polar form of complex number, triangle inequality.

5. Probability and Statistics: Definitions of probability and sampling theorems, Conditional probability, Mean, median, mode and standard deviation, Random variables, Poisson, Normal and Binomial distributions, Linear regression analysis.

6. Numerical Methods: Numerical solutions of linear and non-linear algebraic equations. Integration by trapezoidal and Simpson’s rule. Single and multi-step methods for numerical solution of differential equations.
