MSEDCL exam details

Maharashtra state electricity distribution (MSEDCL) company limited is one of the biggest power distribution company of India.As the name suggests it operates in Maharashtra. MSEDCL comes with recruitment notification for recruitment in different posts.

It offers exciting opportunity for Candidates residing in Maharastra to join Government job.Since it is a large company the benefits and packages are at part with other Government entities.It is a good career option for students.The number of vacancies are also decent.

Since the exam pattern and recruitment process is more or less similar to other major exams.Students do not have to dedicate special time for preparation of this exam.Moreover I have described about the exams in details here.It will give students overview of the exam.

The eligibility criteria is not very stringent so most candidates can appear for the exams.

MSEDCL eligibility criteria

Candidates applying for the post of Junior Engineer (Distribution), Assistant Vigilance Officer and Junior Assistant (Accounts) should be domicile of Maharashtra State.For the post of Assistant Engineer distribution you should have knowledge of Marathi language.

You should either have passed Marathi as a subject in Higher Secondary or Secondary board or you should have certificate from recognized institute or professor on the same.The recruitment notification is subject to Maharashtra Civil Services (declaration of Small Family) Rules, 2005. So declaration of small family is one of the essential qualification (2 children at max rule).

The educational qualification required for different posts are

  • Assistant Engineer Distribution – BE or BTECH in Electrical Engineering
  • Junior Engineer Distribution – Diploma in Electrical Engineering
  • Assistant Vigilance Officer – Degree with 60% marks or diploma with 50% marks or degree in Electrical / Electronics / Information Technology / Computer / Instrumentation / Mechanical / Civil or Serving or retired Non commissioned officer from defense or police force of service not less than 8 years
  • Junior Assistant Accounts – Bachelor in Commerce or Bachelor in Business Administration or Bachelor of Management studies with MS-CIT

The upper age limit for Assistant Engineer distribution is 35 years.For all other posts the upper age limit is 30 years.The upper age limit is relaxable for reserved candidates by 5 years.In case of departmental candidates upper age limit is 57 years.The scale of pay for different posts are

  • Assistant Engineer distribution – 40,000 INR approx
  • Junior Engineer distribution – 30,000 INR approx
  • Assistant Vigilance Officer – 29,000 INR approx

The approx pay per month mentioned above are exclusive of HRA and other allowances,Medical Benefits,Leave Encashment,CPF and Gratuity.For Junior Assistant Accounts post the successful candidates have to complete contractual period.After completion of contractual period they will become permanent employee of the company.Post Graduates in Commerce or Finance will be paid 1,000 INR as additional.

For all the posts mentioned above there will be 30% reservation for women.Women who want to avail reservation except SC and ST will have to produce no creamy layer certificate issued by competent authority of Government of Maharashtra.Without that they will not be considered for women reservation.Also all the selected candidates will have to serve MSEDCL for 3 years.

MSEDCL selection format

MSEDCL selection format consist of written test and academic performance.The weightage of marks is 90% written test followed by 10% academic performance.For Academic performance MSEDCL has below norms

Percentage of marks required in examination is if from 41% to 50% then marks allocated is 2% out of 10% marks of academic performance.From 51% to 60% 3%,from 61% to 70% 4%,from 71% to 80% 5%,from 81% to 90% 6%,91% to 94 7% and 95% and above 8% .

Candidates who have acquired Post Graduate Degree/ Diploma or MBA qualification shall be given additional 2 marks in the above component.The marks should be rounded to nearest whole number.For example if your percentage in 84.78 then you can write it as 85. Also candidates having CGPA should convert that to percentage out of 100%.

There will be no interview or group discussion after written test.This may be relief for few candidates.If you have scored good marks in written test then chances of your selection becomes very high.A good academic record will further help.There is nothing mentioned about online exam format or syllabus.The exam will be in English except for the Marathi part.
