RBI Assistant vs SBI PO Which one is better ?

Brief Overview :

Recently banks are coming up with  number of recruitment notifications  mainly because of high number of retirement in banking industry . At present it is one such industry which is employing maximum number of passed out candidates

There are many candidates who after months of preparation gets through more than one competitive exams and toughest decision comes into picture  which one to opt for. This article is dedicated to such candidate who are lucky and privileged  enough to clear both RBI assistant and SBI PO and are into dilemma as to which one to opt for.

Also during preparation phase as well Candidates want to know about RBI Assistant and SBI PO differences. Based on this decision they decide which bank they should opt for. So this article is written to help those candidates.

SBI PO vs RBI Assistant

Below are different parameters on which basis we have done our comparison, we have taken basic issues like preparation process, salary, posting, type of work  ( as these are main cause of concern for many aspirants) .

1.Purpose of Both Exams:

RBI Assistant : For recruitment as assistant (clerical cadres) at RBI i.e Central Bank of India

SBI PO: For recruitment as PO  for all branches of SBI . Note PO stands for Probationary officer.

2.Exams Procedure & selection Process:

RBI Assistant

Preliminary exam (100 Marks), Main Exam ( 200 Marks)

Preliminary exam  will be on  3 sections – Reasoning ability, English  and quantitative ability. The duration of exam will be 1 hr. Total number of question will be 100 ,each carrying 1 marks.

Mains will consist of 5 sections  comprising of 200 questions for total 200 marks. Duration of exam will be 2 hours.

Candidates those who qualify mains will be called for interview, which comprise of 35 marks

SBI PO exam pattern

It comprises of Prelims, Main and interview. Prelims are to some extent similar to that of RBI assistant with common sections but mains differ- In case of SBI PO descriptive  question of 50 marks is on English is there but the same is not applicable in case of RBI assistant exam. So SBI exam requires more command over English language.

3. Competition

Possibility of getting a Call for GD & PI is higher in case of RBI assistant compared to SBI PO. Though the number of vacancy is limited in both the cases, but craze for SBI appears to be more because of the designation of “Officer”.

The Ratio of Number applicant to seat is more or less similar in both the cases but cut off in case of SBI may be higher compared to RBI assistant. Candidates who has cleared RBI assistant exam has more chance of getting call letter for interview than SBI PO

This makes SBI PO more difficult.

4.Basic Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria are more or less the same in both the examination.

RBI Assistant : Graduate in any discipline with minimum 50% however for candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD only pass class is sufficient.  Student applying for any particular state/ city must be comfortable with the local language of that area. Candidates graduated from Distance education must provide necessary approved documents from IGNOU.

Those who are  appearing for RBI,must be between the age of 20-28 years , Candidates belonging to reserved category have certain relaxation in age limit  . In case of SBI PO, the age limit is 21-30 years.In most cases candidate eligible for one examination, is always eligible for the other examination. I would advise you to apply for both the vacancies.

5.Job Profile

RBI Assistant

Being Assistant at central bank of India , the main job role will be to draft letter, data management, MIS generation, File maintenance. It will be basically a desk job mainly dealing with data & records.

SBI PO

The job role of SBI PO will be more challenging compared to RBI Assistant.  It will involve customer interaction ( SBI has wide customer base). A general banking officer will have to do lot of work from canvassing new business leads, to verification of vouchers, promoting alternate delivery channels etc.

Credit officer at SBI PO has to take care of entire loan department, credit monitoring, inspection etc. As such the job role of SBI PO is more challenging than that of RBI Assistant.

6.Salary & Career Path

RBI Assistant

Approximate salary of RBI Assistant including HRA,DA etc is around Rs.28000/- apart from this some allowances are given on annual basis viz medical, books & periodicals, furniture, etc. RBI Assistant is getaway to the Central Bank of India.

The future of the candidate will be very progressive in such organisation. Assistant gets opportunity to be eligible in promotion exercise generally after a span of 5 years of service .

SBI PO

The starting basic salary of SBI PO Gross will be approx Rs.40,000/- P.M . In case of SBI PO also staffs gets benefit of medical, books & periodicals, furniture etc.In case of SBI PO, It is also prestigious institute with bright career opportunities. Generally candidate becomes eligible for promotion exercise within a span of 3 years.

Even though the tenure of eligibility is longer in case of RBI assistant . RBI, being central Bank of India offers successful career prospects.

7.Work pressure

RBI Assistant

It is a 5 days a week . Fixed working hours is there in RBI . No need of late sitting. RBI has work of regular nature.

SBI PO

It is 6 days a week ( except for 2nd & 4th Saturdays- which is holiday). Apart from regular working hours late sitting is frequent because of huge customer base of the bank. Work pressure is comparatively more in this case because of direct customer handling, multiple targets etc.

8.Posting

RBI Assistant

Reserve bank of India is situated in Major cities of our Country. Generally candidates are posted at their home town( as they are familiar with local language & culture). Chances of transfer is also negligible for RBI assistant.

SBI PO

Candidates can be posted anywhere in India, as SBI has got branches all over India, even in rural & semi urban area. Candidate may not get home posting, in case of SBI. Posting at rural/ semi urban at SBI is mandatory for career growth.
